After five days, the protesters have finally withdrawn the gherao (siege) of the SSC building.
However, they have made it clear that even though they will return to classrooms, their struggle will continue.
While the gherao has been called off, sit-in protests will continue at Shahid Minar for the next two days.
If paperwork is not completed, they have warned of launching another movement towards Bikash Bhavan.
If everything goes as planned, they will start attending school from Monday.
The protesters stated that their demands have only been partially met.
Although the list, which they had demanded to be published, was sent to the DI (District Inspector) office, they found several errors in it, including many eligible candidates’ names being left out.
They have given the authorities today and tomorrow to rectify the issues; otherwise, they will again call for a gherao of Bikash Bhavan.
Since summer vacation starts on the 30th, it is necessary for them to attend school as per the court’s order.
Thus, for now, they will go back to school but plan to resume their movement afterward.
At present, they have withdrawn the protest from the SSC building, as they also need to prepare for filing their review petition.
The sit-in protest at Shahid Minar will now focus on those whose names were not included in the eligibility list.
The movement will continue today and tomorrow at Shahid Minar.
The protesters mentioned that they had already collected the names of those left out and submitted them to the SSC Chairman.
They also alleged that during yesterday’s protest march by candidates from the Tended (likely meant to be “TET” or another typo), there was an attack on their protest.
Even though they went to the police for help, the police allegedly acted as silent spectators.
There were repeated incidents of unrest, with bricks being thrown.
When Chinmoy Mondal tried to intervene and explain the situation, he was physically assaulted — even slapped.
To ensure that there are no obstacles to filing their review petition, they decided to give the SSC Chairman some time.
