Putting an end to all speculations, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced their captain for the upcoming season of the IPL.
This time, the Knights will be led by Ajinkya Rahane.
Venkatesh Iyer will serve as the vice-captain.
Last season, it was Shreyas Iyer who led the team to the championship.
This season, KKR aims for another title under Rahane’s leadership.
Before the mega auction, Shah Rukh Khan’s team had not retained Shreyas Iyer, sparking widespread speculation about who would lead the team.
There were strong rumors around Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer, with some even suggesting Sunil Narine or Andre Russell might get the captaincy.
However, the team ultimately placed its trust in Ajinkya Rahane.
Rahane, who captains Mumbai in domestic cricket, will now lead KKR in the IPL.
KKR had bought Rahane for ₹1.5 crore, while Venkatesh Iyer was acquired for a whopping ₹23.75 crore, leading many to believe that Venkatesh might be chosen as captain.
In the end, KKR decided to go with experience over price.
Along with announcing the captaincy, KKR also unveiled their new jersey on Monday.
Having won the IPL three times, the new jersey now features three stars to represent their titles.
There is also a golden badge on the sleeves.
Now, all eyes are on whether Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders can win this year’s IPL under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership.
